Was ist MÖVE?[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

2018 hat MÖVE u.A.

Komplementaer-Profil: OEKONOMIKplus[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

What is MÖVE?[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

MÖVE is a student initiative at Leuphana University Lüneburg, which was founded by economics students in 2015. They noticed that some professors in their lectures were not able to answer crucial questions.

MÖV(W)E has a double meaning and is an acronym. On the one hand, the activists see themselves as seagulls (German Möwe) and the bird is our heraldic animal. On the other hand, MÖVE means [Achieving more economic diversity].

Critical voices are of the opinion that both neoclassicism and market ideology are not the last word in wisdom.

There are two ways to achieving more economic diversity.

On the one hand, many different schools of theory, as well as a variety of methods, are needed at universities to support society in its problems with the appropriate theory.

That is why we are a member of the Plural Economics Network of german speaking countries.

An example of the need for plurality is sustainability . That is one of the main issues of Leuphana.

On the other hand, diversity in economics can also be achieved by reconsidering unscientific and inapplicable models in the curriculum. (diversity in Economics Theory)

The Network for pluralism in Economic Theory [Netzwerk plurale Ökonomik][Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

The Network for Plural Economics is a registered association, which networks about 35 local groups, often student initiatives, in German-speaking countries. The founders of MÖVE knew the network from the beginning and already provided a board of directors. Since its foundation in 2007, many hundreds of events have been organised, texts published and one websites for economic education (exploring-economics ) were built up in english and german.

The Plural Economics Network is also involved in the International Student Initiative for Pluralism in Economics .

Selected historical info[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

From 2015 to 2019 there was the format VWL-Disskusion . Some VWL models were presented and then discussed.

In 2018, MÖVE was responsible for the series of events "10 years after the crash" , a wide-ranging series of events covering a broad range of topics around the "10th anniversary" of the financial crisis.

In winter semester 19/20, MÖVE organised and hosted the Conference Transformation and Economics .

In 2019, MÖVE published a position paper , which was followed by the article "Revolution Im-Hörsaal" in the Landeszeitung. The „Landeszeitung“ is an German Newspaper.

In almost every semester since its inception, Möven has held a schnack on plural issues. These were/are lectures with disscusion.

In the summer term 2021 MÖVE conducted the eleven-part lecture series "Economics and beyond " which took place only via Zoom due to the Corona pandemic.

For the summer semester of 2023, we have organized the bilingual lecture series "How to crisis - pluralist perspectives on current societal problems ".

Komplementaer-Profil: OEKONOMIKplus[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

Since the summer semester of 2021, after a long process of work and communication between MÖVE, the Institute of Economics and Leuphana, the Komplementärprofil ÖkonomikPLUS has been launched.

In four modules, plural perspectives on economic topics are taught. Topics include, for example, the theoretical history of economics, cultural studies analyses of economic concepts, prosperity research, ecological economics or feminist economics.

This is one of the first opportunities in Germany to study pluralistic content in an economics bachelor's programme. Unfortunately, the events are mainly in German.+
